Abstract

1,269,005. Loud-speaker systems. H. H. SCOTT Inc. 16 April, 1970 [15 Dec., 1969], No. 18265/70. Headings H4J and H4X. A floor standing loud-speaker unit includes a housing having four side-faces, a first low audio-frequency loudspeaker mounted in one face with its centre positioned one-quarter of its mean frequency wavelength above the base, a second similar loudspeaker mounted on the opposite face with its centre positioned threequarters of its mean frequency wavelength above the base and four high audio-frequency loud-speakers mounted one on each face asymmetrically near a top corner thereof. Mid audio-frequency loudspeakers may be provided and mounted at different heights one in each face. The high and mid-frequency loud-speakers are provided with small enclosures containing damping material and the housing contains damping material positioned between the lowfrequency loud-speakers. Two such units together are used for sterio reproduction. The positions of the loud-speakers relative to the floor such that for a sound reflective floor the distortions at a given frequency occur at different points of the room, i.e. are not additive. The low-frequency loud-speakers are connected in parallel and the other speakers in series parallel.
