Abstract

1499407 Loud-speaker systems; resonators CBS Inc 28 April 1975 [20 May 1974] 17471/75 Headings H4J and H4X A loud-speaker 312 is mounted on a rotatable baffle 310 having unequal horizontal edges in a generally open sided upper compartment which is formed above a closed lower compartment having a second speaker 306 mounted on one side face thereof, the speaker 306 being for a frequency range below that of the speaker 312. Further speakers 314, 316 for higher frequency ranges are also provided. Speakers 312, 314 in conjunction with respective portions of the baffle 310 form dipole radiators. The respective frequency ranges of speakers 312, 314 may be 200-1000 Hz and 1000-5000 Hz respectively, the speakers 306 and 316 dealing with the ranges below 200 Hz and above 5000 Hz respectively. The baffle may be pivoted within a frame arranged to pivot about a horizontal axis so as to provide for both displacement about a vertical and a horizontal axis (Fig. 7, not shown). The speakers are of the moving coil type but it is mentioned that capacitor or electret type speakers may be used, especially for the speakers 312, 314.
