Abstract

1356843 Quadraphonic system DYNACO Inc 27 May 1971 17651/71 Heading H4R Left "L" and right "R" channel signals of a stereophonic system have an "ambience" signal, "B", derived from microphones located near the back of a hall containing the programme source, added in opposite phase in the two channels. For reproduction the two channel signals are combined in opposite phase and fed to a loud-speaker situated at the back of the listening room while the individual channel signals are fed to respective loud-speakers located at the sides. In addition the two channels are combined in similar phase and fed to a loud-speaker mounted in the centre front of the listening room. As described with respect to Fig. 2a the L and R signals can be fed to respective amplifiers 15 and 18 and the "B" signal fed through a phase inverter circuit to derive two antiphase signals one of which is added, at 16, to the output from amplifier 15 and the other added, at 19, to the output from amplifier 18. In addition a signal "F" derived from a microphone mounted near the front of the hall containing the programme source is added, in the same phase, to both "L" and "R" signals. For reproduction the two channels can be fed to respective earpieces of a head set, Fig. 3b (not shown), or as in Fig. 3a, to respective amplifiers 35, 36 from which is fed a rear loudspeaker 40, connected from one amplifier to the other to reproduce the difference signal L - R + 2B, left and right loud-speakers each connected to the respective amplifier to reproduce the respective channel signal L + B + F and R - B + F and a front loud-speaker 44 connected to reproduce the sum signal L + R + 2F.
