Abstract

823,241. Piezo-electric transducers. ERIE RESISTOR CORPORATION. May 4, 1956 [June 20, 1955], No. 13808/56. Class 40 (4). [Also in Group XL (b)] A bender type piezo-electric transducer comprises a body of ferro-electric ceramic with a conducting electrode on each of its upper and lower faces, said body being polarized by an electrostatic field between opposite side faces and the conducting electrodes. As shown, a binaural gramophone pick-up comprises a combined lateral and hill-and-dale stylus 4 connected to a solid bender ceramic crystal 2, the upper and lower faces having electrodes 7, 8 feeding one binaural loud-speaker 10 and the side faces 11, 12 feeding the other binaural loudspeaker 14. Opposite electrodes are connected to like poles of a battery 22, Fig. 5, so that polarization follows the lines 15-18, Fig. 3. The crystal may be of cruciform cross-section, Fig. 4, so as to make greater use of the centres of the electrodes.
