Class 40 (4) [Also in Groups XXXV, XXXVI and XXXVIII] A pressure sensitive resistance consisting of a silicone rubber impregnated with extremely fine carbon particles is used in microphones, gramophone pick-ups and magneto microphone relays. A gramophone pick-up, Fig. 6, has a needle 23 whose oscillations vary the resistance of two resistance members 26, 27 connected in a bridge to provide an electrical output at 33. A microphone, Fig. 7, comprises a diaphragm 34 whose oscillations vary the resistance of resistance members 26a, 27a connected in a bridge to provide an electrical output at 33a. A magneto-microphonic relay, Fig. 8, comprises a magneto-strictive device 38 which varies the pressure on a resistance member 35 to provide an amplified output at 16a.
