Abstract
725,833. Piezo-electric transducers. ERIE RESISTOR CORPORATION. Feb. 25, 1953 [March 14, 1952], No. 5305/53. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (4). [Also in Group XL (b)] In a piezo-electric transducer comprising a polarized barium titanate ceramic body having spaced electrodes thereon, at least one of these electrodes is mechanically and electrically connected to an adjacent electrode or to a metal plate by means of a cement consisting of a mixture of solventless varnish and conductive material set up in situ at a temperature below the Curie point of the ceramic so as not to destroy the polarization of the ceramic. In one embodiment, each electrode is cemented to a metal plate which serves to distribute applied mechanical energy over the whole area of the body. In a second embodiment, two of the ceramic bodies are arranged back-to-back and the adjacent electrodes are cemented together. The resulting transducer is supported by one of its ends in a phonograph tone-arm, the other end carrying a stylus, and the whole forming a phonograph pick-up.
