Abstract
862,522. Washing-machines. MASCHINENFABRIK P. PFENNINGSBERG G.m.b.H. Nov. 23, 1959 [Dec. 6, 1958], No. 39692/59. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XXIV] A washing-drum is rotated at low speed for washing by means of a gear 9, and at high speed for spin-drying by a gear 11, the gears 9, 11 being integral with drums 8, 10, respectively, freely mounted on a motor drive-shaft 2, the changeover being effected by altering the motor speed. Rigid with shaft 2 are four arms 1 and pivotally mounted at 3 on each arm 1 is a two-armed lever 4 comprising axially-offset arms 5, 6 (Fig. 4, not shown). When shaft 2 rotates at, e.g., 750 r.p.m. springs 7 press arms 5 into driving engagement with drum 8, and the washing drum is rotated at, e.g., 45 r.p.m. If the motor speed is increased to, e.g., 1500 r.p.m. the increased centrifugal force on the heavier arms 6 overcomes the springs and forces the arms 6 into driving engagement with the drum 10.
