Abstract
861,941. Tubular heat exchangers. BIDDLE Ltd., F. H. May 27, 1958 [May 6, 1957], No. 14391/57. Class 64(3) In a heat exchanger, for space heating or cooling in which rows of primary tubes 1 carrying a heating or cooling medium extend through flat plate type fins 2, turbulence is imparted to air flowing over the tubes and fins by the provision of projections or indentations 3 of substantially V or inverted V shape in cross-section on the fins upstream of the tubes with respect to the direction of air flow thereover. A heat exchanger according to the invention may be incorporated in an apparatus such as shown in Fig. 4 for heating or cooling the air blown or induced by a resiliently mounted fan 9 over the heat exchanger elements, louvres 6 having either individual or common adjustment being provided. A wire mesh guard 10 covers the rear of the casing 5 in which the heat exchanger is mounted. When used for the cooling of air, removal of condensate is facilitated by arranging that the fins 2 extend vertically.
