Abstract

911,433. Refrigerating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Oct. 7, 1959 [Oct. 8, 1958], No. 32125/58. Class 29. A casing 1 is divided by partitions 2 into ducts, the partitions being formed by thermoelectric elements so disposed that alternate ducts are heated and cooled by the junctions which have fins 7 in heat exchange therewith and extending into the ducts. Cooling air is circulated through manifold 11, the first, third, and fifth ducts (which have end openings 3) and manifold 12. Air to be cooled is circulated by fan 10 through the second and fourth ducts (which have end openings 4). The directions of flow of the cooling air and the air to be cooled are mutually at right-angles. In modifications, the hot junctions may be watercooled or heat may be transferred to and from the junctions by intermediate fluids, e.g. in systems of the evaporating-condensing type.
