Abstract
1,092,308. Cooling engines; controlling fans. FICHTEL & SACHS A. G. July 13, 1965 [July 17, 1964], No. 29631/65. Headings F1B and F1C. A thermostat 2 controlling the clutch 1 of a cooling fan of a radiator 3 has associated therewith a guide or baffle 8 ensuring more uniform response of the thermostat to the temperature of the air flowing through the radiator. The guide may comprise a tube or funnel-shaped member 8 secured to the radiator. Alternatively a flat plate 5, Fig. 1 (not shown) or a spherical or conical plate may be fixed to the upstream side of the radiator. In Fig. 8 the guide comprises a cupshaped member 16 secured to and rotating with the clutch, air flowing through the cup around the thermostat 2 and out through apertures 18. Fan blades 17 may be provided on the cup to assist the air flow. The cup may be replaced by a funnelshaped member of relatively large mass to delay cutting out of the clutch upon a drop in air temperature.
