Abstract
Non-aqueous quick-drying vehicles for coating compositions comprising a drying oil with conjugated unsaturation and an oil-soluble organic titanate photo-polymerization catalyst for initiating polymerization of the oil when activated by irradiation with cold energy such as ultra-violet light or alpha rays, may also include divinyl benzene and benzoyl peroxide. Examples of suitable vehicles are composed of: (5) bodied tung oil, benzoyl peroxide, benzil, divinyl benzene, and isobutyl titanate; (6) bodied tung oil, benzoyl peroxide, cinnamoyl chloride, divinyl benzene and isobutyl titanate; and (7) bodied tung oil, divinyl benzene, isobutyl titanate and cinnamoyl chloride. U.S.A. Specifications 2,453,769 and 2,453,770 are referred to.ALSO:A non-aqueous vehicle for a coating composition comprises a drying oil with conjugated double bonds, and an oil-soluble organic titanate photo-polymerization catalyst for initiating rapid polymerization of the drying oil when activated by cold energy, e.g. ultra-violet light or alpha rays. The preferred oil is bodied tung oil. Suitable titanium compounds are isopropoxy titanium stearate, octylene glycol titanate, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, 2-ethyl butyl or 2-ethyl-hexyl titanate. Other additives exemplified are cinnamoyl chloride, benzil, divinyl benzene and benzoyl peroxide. U.S.A. Specifications 2,453,769 and 2,453,770 are referred to.
