Abstract

Non-aqueous vehicles for coating materials comprise a drying oil with conjugated double bonds, an oil-soluble organic peroxide and a tertiary amine. The peroxide appears to catalyse drying of the composition on exposure to cold energy radiation, e.g. ultra-violet light or alpha rays. The tertiary amine prevents livering or shimming. Bodied tung oil is the preferred oil. Many organic peroxides and hydroperoxides are mentioned. Suitable tertiary amines are N,N-dimethyl aniline, triethylamine, triamylamine, and N-methyl morpholine. Conventional driers, e.g. cobalt, lead or manganese naphthenates, octoates or linoleates may be included in the compositions. U.S.A. Specifications 2,453,769 and 2,453,770 are referred to.
