Abstract

Anhydrous formaldehyde is polymerized by subjecting it to ultra-violet irradiation at +100 DEG to -80 DEG C. The formaldehyde may be irradiated as a solution in an inert solvent, or as a gas while it is being led into the solvent. From 0,001 to 10% based on the formaldehyde or liquid composition of a benzophenone, desoxy benzoin, benzoin, acetophenone, benzil, benzoresorcinol, fluoliathin, benzoyl peroxide or acylrin may be present in the formaldehyde. Hydrocarbons, halogenated hydrocarbons, ethers and ketones are specified solvents.
