Abstract

Ethylene is polymerized in an inert organic diluent using a Ziegler catalyst and the process being characterized in that at least one catalyst component is introduced into the reaction vessel during the polymerization whereby catalyst is produced continuously. Olefin and diluent may also be added continuously and the process may easily be carried out in various specified continuous flow operations. The starting mixture may already contain polymer in order that a constant consistency is maintained. Carbon tetrachloride or oxygen may be used as molecular weight regulators. Materials used in the subsequent purification are isopropanol, acetone, nitric acid and water. Specifications 799,392, 799,823, 801,031, 828,201 and 828,692 are referred to.
