Abstract

860,717. Moulding-machines; foundry-plant. COLEMAN-WALLWORK CO. Ltd. Jan. 2, 1959 [Oct. 4, 1957], No. 31212/57. Class 83 (1). A mould turnover unit comprises a base, a mould-receiving table mounted at one end on a shaft supported in bearings at one end of the base, clamps on the table movable to grip the mould on opposite sides, means to turn the table about the axis of said shaft, fluid-pressure cylinder means for operation of said clamps and table-turning means, and valve means on said base and operated by the placing of the inverted mould upon said table for controlling the operation of said fluid-pressure cylincler means. The mould-receiving table 13 is secured to the shaft 12 and is rotatable therewith through rack-andpinion mechanism driven by a cylinder 39. The table carries clamping-arms 20 which secure a mould 22 to the table when actuated by a floating cylinder 24, whose piston-rod 25 is secured to one clamp, the cylinder itself being secured to the other clamp. Movement of the mould on to the table from the rollers 18 adjacent the moulding-machine actuates a valve 23 in the pneumatic circuit to cause the cylinder 24 to operate the clamps. Simultaneously the piston 39 is actuated to invert the mould to the position 22a, Fig. 2. At the end of the turnover movement, a stop 45 on the table actuates a valve 46, whereupon the clamps are released and the table is returned. In the position 22a, the mould is preferably received by rollers 55 on a transfer-table 53, Fig. 6, from whence it is pushed by a pusher 62, actuated by a cylinder 60, controlled, e.g. by a valve on the table 53 opened by deposition of the mould thereon, on to a conveyer for conveying the mould to pouring and other operating-stations. Alternatively, a cam 82 on the end of the shaft 12 may actuate a valve 83 in the pneumatic circuit of the pusher 62 to cause the pusher to operate shortly after the table starts its return to its initial position, ready to receive another mould. At the end of the ejection stroke, a valve 77 is operated by the pusher to restore the pusher to its initial position. The conveyer comprises pallets 85, Fig. 8, which receive the moulds ejected from the transfer-unit, and comprise cams 84 which actuate control-valves such as 86, 86a, for control of the turnover and transfer units, disposed on a frame 88 adjacent the turnover unit. In one arrangement, Fig. 8, a conveyer runs alongside two turnover units A and two transfer units B. In a further modification, each turnover unit and transfer unit receives and deals with two or more moulds at a time, e.g. two turnover tables may be mounted on respective shafts at opposite ends of the unit, and disposed side-byside or end-to-end with a transfer unit at each end of the turnover unit.
