Abstract

858,717. Valves. RUDGE & CO. Ltd., H. E. April 8, 1958 [April 10, 1957], No. 11668/57. Class 135. In a tap comprising a valve closure pad 9, Fig. 1, freely rotatable on an operating spindle 8 and seat 5c to control liquid flow between an inlet 5a and an outlet 5b, the operating spindle 8 has a projecting lug 10 alternatively engageable with an open-ended axial slot 6b in a bushing 6 to move the pad axially towards and away from its seating and with an end cam face 6c on the bushing, whereby on rotation of the spindle the pad is compressed or decompressed with respect to the seat to either effectively seal or unseal the tap without rotation of the pad on its seat. In a modification, the bushing 6, a set-screw 7 securing the bushing to the body 5 and a cap 11 closing the body are replaced by an externally screw-threaded, hexagonally headed bush 14, Fig. 3, having an end cam face 14a and a slot 14b.
