857,525. Seats. TAN-SAD CHAIR CO. (1931) Ltd. July 6, 1959 [July 9, 1958], No. 21986/58. Class 52(2) In an adjustable back-rest for a seat the latter has at its rear two protruding parallel members a to which the socket parts b of a clamp are pivoted and between which the tubular back-rest c slidably and tiltably operates, the clamp b being in two parts each having a stud b<SP>7</SP>, engageable with a keyhole slot a<SP>1</SP>, and an elongated slot b<SP>1</SP> having parallel serrated parts b<SP>2</SP>. A circular aperture b3 is provided centrally and each part b has a socket section b<SP>4</SP> to receive the part c. A two part hand screw is installed in a loose bearing a<SP>2</SP> and one part d screws into part d<SP>1</SP> with handle d<SP>2</SP>. A serrated plate d<SP>4</SP> has dog teeth d<SP>5</SP> engaging slots b<SP>1</SP> to arrest rotation and the serrations cooperate with b2. Releasing the clamp by unscrewing d<SP>1</SP> from d allows the tube supporting arm to be moved vertically or on its pivots b<SP>7</SP> by virtue of slots b<SP>1</SP> engaging the clamping screw which remains stationary.
