Abstract

999,110. Seats. COX OF WATFORD. Jan. 14, 1964 [Oct. 25, 1962], No. 36370/62. Heading A4J. A clamp comprises a casing 4 housing a pair of jaws 7 formed by the two sides of a U-shaped pressing having a hole 8 through which passes a rod 2 which is to be gripped. As shown the casing 4 is fixed to a tube 1 forming part of the seat of an office chair. A hole 15 is formed in the casing for the passage of a rod 2 which supports a back pad. A rivet 13 passes through the casing and through slots 11 in the jaws 7. A clamping bolt 5 passes through the casing and through further slots 10 in the jaws. To adjust the rod 2 a knob 3 on the bolt 5 is released and rod 2 pushed against the edges of the holes 15, 8, the slots 10, 11 allowing the jaws 7 to move relatively to the casing 4 against the action of a spring 12, to an adjusted position where they may be clamped against the rod by the knob 3. In a modification shown in Fig. 3 a return spring 7b is provided and a wedge W is enclosed in the jaws 7. When the knob 3 is tightened the sides of the wedge W prevent the rod 2 from tipping backwards.
