To permit a ram 17 for pushing trucks from a traverser to be retracted when the traverser has been moved from adjacent the ram, the carriage 19 of the ram is supported by an auxiliary track 23 which is moved to an inoperative depressed condition when the traverser is brought up. The auxiliary track 23 may be mounted to be rotated as well as depressed, so that the traverser clears it, or the traverser track 15 may be of such a broad gauge that it is outside the width of the traverser platform so that the auxiliary track may be accommodated between the wheels of the traverser carriage when depressed. In the construction illustrated however the track 15 for the traverser is gapped to receive the auxiliary track 23 when depressed. The track 23 is carried by a platform 20 guided by members 22 and raised and lowered by a ram 21. The Specification describes a system in which valves operated automatically by the movement of a pair of pit cages, a tippler, two traversers, the associated rams, and trucks, provides automatic operation of a pneumatic system for tippling trucks delivered from the pit cages and returning them to the cages. Alternatively, the system may be hydraulic, electro-hydraulic, electro-pneumatic, or electrically operated and the ram may be operated pneumatically, hydraulically, or mechanically.
