Abstract

855,744. Suction cleaner nozzles. PRECO Inc. Jan. 14, 1959 [Oct. 23, 1958], No. 1427/59. Class 8(1). Each of two rectangular-sectioned bearing blocks 202, Fig. 9, at opposite ends of a rotatable brush 64 mounted above the suction mouth 58 of a vacuum cleaner nozzle and driven through a belt 86, Fig. 3, from a suction air operated turbine 76 located in a chamber 72 having an air inlet 150 from the brush chamber 56 and an outlet 140 connected to a source of suction is guided by a plate 203 having end stop flanges 210 and secured in a plane substantially normal to that containing the axes of the brush core 62, Fig. 7, and turbine shaft 78 whereby as the bearing blocks 202 ride up and down the guide plate 203 due to unevenness of the surface being cleaned the belt tension remains constant. The bearing is protected from dust by a cap 200 and by a baffle-forming upper member 222 sealed over a lower member 220 and engaging the nozzle cover 50 and the walls of the brush chamber 56. A small air opening 224 outside the baffle assists in said dust protection. A relief flap valve 230 in front of the nozzle cover 50 ensures adequate air flow through the turbine in the event of the suction mouth being blocked. The turbine wheel shaft bearing is as described in Specification 855,743. Specification 855,742 also is referred to.
