854,827. Agricultural implements. VYZKUMNY USTAV ZEMEDELSKYCH STROJU PRAHA. Aug. 9, 1957 [Aug. 20, 1956 ; July 22, 1957], No. 25188/57. Class 6(1). [Also in Group XXXI] A device that maintains a tractor 1 and/or its attached implement 3 on a predetermined path comprises a feeler 15 co-operating in its deflected position with one or other of contacts 16, 17 that control electrically a hydraulic or pneumatic distributer valve 6 actuating a servomotor, as for example at 5, whose piston rod causes the necessary deflection. The distributer is of a known rotary type as shown at 6 of Fig. 1 operated by solenoids 18 and 19 and connected to the tractor battery through an internal circuit. Alternative embodiments, Fig. 3 (not shown), have a slide valve distributer and circuits in which the solenoids are connected through the tractor battery to earth so that the feeler itself completes the circuit by contacting the row it is wished to follow. In addition to the servomotor 5 on the implement 3, a servo motor may also be arranged in the steering mechanism of the tractor 1 so that the front wheels are deflected by operation of the feeler 15. In another embodiment illustrated in Fig. 4 the feeler 15 is omitted and the contact plates 62 and 63 are arranged to travel on either side of a guiding path, here illustrated by a row of plants. In this instance the electrical impulses are fed to amplifiers 65 and 66 which in turn operate the solenoids 46, 47 of the distributer valve 48. A further embodiment shows the pair of contact plates 62, 63 duplicated in tandem, and the apparatus arranged so that it will not be operated if a single plant in the row is out of line and only touches one of each pair of the plates at a time. Other embodiments show valve circuits similar to that in Fig. 3 but with a feeler of a type suitable for following the bottom or the side wall of a furrow. Alternatively the feeler may be mounted at the front of the tractor.
