Abstract

854,593. Couplings. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. Sept. 1, 1958 [Sept. 11, 1957], No. 28689/57. Class 38(1) Components having a number of connecting leads or tags are connected to a printed circuit panel by inserting the tags or leads through holes in the panel and soldering them to intermediate connecting members which are in turn soldered to the printed circuit; whereby unsoldering of the connections is facilitated. The intermediate connecting member may comprise a dished washer 13, Fig. 1, having a lip 14 which rests on the periphery of the hole in the panel. To unsolder the connection, the panel is inverted and the tag 15 touched with a hot iron. When the solder melts, the washer 13 will fall clear of the hole. A flat washer which abuts the printed circuit may be used and Fig. 3 shows another form of washer having a raised central portion which grips the tag and a downturned periphery 28 between which and the printed circuit is formed a fillet 29 of solder. In other embodiments (Figs. 4 and 5, not, shown) the connecting member is in the form of an eyelet which is a push-fit on the tag and may be removed by a forked bit on a soldering iron.
