Abstract

1,060,271. Binding posts; two-part couplings. R. F. OXLEY. Jan. 5, 1965 [Jan. 6, 1964; Feb. 20, 1964], Nos. 580/64 and 7196/64. Heading H2E. A brass pin plated with silver or gold has a central gripper portion formed with four circumferential grooves 8 which each have a lower surface normal to the longitudinal axis of the pin, and an upper surface inclined to the axis of the pin by approximately 15 degrees, and also formed with twelve longitudinally extending V- shaped grooves which intersect the circumferential grooves 8. The outer extremities of the projections form an envelope which is frusto-conical shaped and has a small half cone angle α. The pin is formed with a central flange 2 which may rest on the upper surface of a printed circuit board into which the pin is inserted. If the hole in the printed circuit board is too small to allow complete insertion of the gripper portion into the board, a ring of prefluxed solder may be provided on the pin between the flange and the board so that when heat is applied to the pin the solder melts and an electrical connection is made between the pin and the contacts on the board. In a second embodiment the pin is pressed through a board not containing preformed apertures. The pin may be in the form of a solder tag, binding post for wrapped connections, plug pin, resilient socket surrounded by a circlip or resilient bushing of P.T.F.E., or a doubleended socket.
