Abstract

854,267. Coking coal. STEINMULLER G.m.b.H., L. & C. Jan. 31, 1957, No. 3389/57. Class 55 (1). Coal dust is blown through a nozzle 2 into a cylindrical degasefying chamber 1 in an axial jet by means of a propellent gas heated above the coking temperature of the dust, the jet being surrounded by a veil of gas formed by introducing an oxidizable gas tangentially through port 3 into the chamber 1 so that it moves in a spiral along the jet from its root, the veil being made sufficiently hot and oxidizing to cause such superficial oxidation of the dust particles that later agglutination does not occur, by mixing the oxidizable gas entering by pipe 4 just before or at its entry into the chamber 1 with an oxidizing gas entering through pipe 6 and then raising the particles to such a temperature that they are degasefied in the chamber 1. The oxidizing medium, which may be air, oxygenenriched air or oxygen, and the oxidizable gas may be preheated to 1000‹ C. by a heat exchanger. In a modification the pipe for the oxidizable gas is concentrically within the pipe for the oxidizing medium.
