The combustion temperature of gases burning in air in a combustion chamber, during the production of combustion product gases used to prevent oxidation of substances, is lowered by recycling condensate water from the combustion product gases to the burning stage. The recycled water may be introduced into a rapidly moving mixture of fuel and air and finely distributed therein. It may be introduced into the stream by gravity or by the injector effect of the rapidly flowing mixture.
