Abstract

853,705. Wire strainers. CABLE COVERS Ltd. July 1, 1959, No. 22667/59. Addition to 825,670. Class 45. [Also in Group XXV] A wire stay tensioner comprises a body 1, threaded at 2 to receive an anchor 3 which is embedded in the ground. The other end of the body is also threaded at 6 to receive a plug 7 which has a flange 8. The flange engages a cup 10 into which is screwed a sleeve 11. The sleeve has a tapered bore and contains two wedges 12 with a similar external taper and which has serrations 16 to grip a wire 15. A spring 14 pushes the wedges into the taper bore. Relative rotation can occur between the plug 7 and the cup 10. The screw thread 2 is of the opposite hand to the remaining threads.
