Class 29 [Also in Groups XXVI and XXXV] An apparatus shown for cooling milk in a churn 1 disposed above a heat-insulated water-filled compartment 6 embodies a refrigeration unit comprising a motor driven compressor 2 hermatically sealed within a casing 3 and which pumps refrigerant through an evaporator 4 accommodated in the compartment 6 and through a condenser 5; the evaporator chills the water which is circulated through pipes 15, 16 to a spray ring 17 embracing an upper region of the churn 1 by a pump 9, 13, 14 driven via a magnetic coupling 10, 9 by the compressor motor. A condenser cooling fan 18 is also driven via the coupling. As applied to a conventional refrigerator, the evaporator is housed in the freezer compartment and the water pump 7, 9, 13, 14 is replaced by an air pump which circulates air in the storage space, over the evaporator.
