814,252. Refrigerators. CORHANIDIS, S. S. Nov. 21, 1955 [Dec. 16, 1954], No. 33250/55. Class 29 A chamber 1 is refrigerated by means of a portable refrigerating unit 2 by which air is withdrawn from the chamber, forced over an evaporator and recirculated to the chamber, which may be an adapted icebox. The refrigerating unit 2 is hung on the outside of the chamber 1 by means of a crossbar 6 engaging hooks 5 and has a relatively large air inlet 15 and a relatively small air outlet 14 corresponding with similar openings 17 and 16 in the chamber wall. A blower 18 draws air from the chamber over the evaporator 19 of a conventional compression system and recirculates the cooled air into the enclosure through the outlet 14, 16. The condenser 29 and compressor are in a separate compartment of the refrigerating unit and a blower 30 driven by the same motor 22 as blower 18 circulates ambient air over the condenser. Condensate on the evaporator 19 is collected in a drip tray 31 and drained to a drip tray 26 beneath the condenser where it is absorbed by a wick 27 which is situated in the path of the ambient air to the condenser 29. The air is thus coooled before reaching the condenser and the efficiency of the condenser increased. The system may be controlled by a temperature control switch.
