Abstract

914,319. Refrigerators. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. Oct. 18, 1961 [Nov. 19, 1960], No. 39859/60. Class 29. A frozen food display case has installed in its wall two refrigerant evaporators which respectively form part of two separate refrigeration systems, one evaporator being in the inner part of the wall. As shown, the display case comprises an open-topped cabinet 1 having a double-walled front 2, bottom 3, and rear 4, and a top forward extension 5 of the rear wall, carrying an electric light 15. The end walls may also be double. The top portion of the front wall 2 is formed of spaced glass panels 8. A low temperature evaporator tube 7 forming part of a refrigeration system having also a compressor 19 and a condenser 20, is secured to the outer face of the innermost metal liner c of the cabinet. A higher temperature evaporator 9 is located in the air space d between the inner and outer cabinet walls and forms part of the second refrigeration system having a compressor 23 and a condenser 24. A fan 10 circulates air through the space d, over the evaporator 9, to emerge from the top overhang 5 and form a cold air curtain across the access opening 6. A simple ball-float type drain valve 16 in the bottom 3 of the casing allows " defront " water to drain away.
