Abstract
1,262,832. Refrigerated containers. ELECTRONIC ASSISTANCE CORP. 9 Nov., 1970 [7 Nov., 1969], No. 53217/70. Heading F4H. [Also in Division H2] A portable container is refrigerated by a unit which is operated by an electric power supply 30 of at least two different frequencies e.g. 60 and 400 cycles per second, which is connected to electric motors 44, 46, 48 driving a compressor 80, evaporator fan 82 and condenser fan 84 respectively. Each motor has two configurations responsive to the two frequencies so that each motor responds at substantially the same operating speed in either configuration e.g. by employing two poles in the 60 cycle configuration and twelve poles in the 400 cycle configuration. The power is supplied to the motors via switches 50, 52, 54 each controlled by two relays, one of which is connected to a 60 cycle pass filter 70 and the other to a 400 cycle filter 74. The compressor 80, Fig. 3, evaporator 82<SP>1</SP> and condenser 84<SP>1</SP> are connected in a refrigerator circuit 86 having a two-way throttling valve 92 controlled by a solenoid 94 responsive to a thermostat 100 in the container which permits normal flow of refrigerant through the circuit below a predetermined temperature and diverts the refrigerant through a line 98 to by-pass the evaporator above that temperature. The cold air from the evaporator may pass into the container through hoses.
