Abstract

1,242,828. Refrigerating. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 6 July, 1970, No. 32656/70. Heading F4H. The motor 20 driving the compressor 13 of a refrigeration system is cooled by liquid refrigerant from the condenser 15 which is supplied to the motor through a line 21 and remains in the liquid state in the motor and a line 24 until junction with the remainder of the refrigerant from the compressor prior to entry to the evaporator 10, the liquid refrigerant in the motor cooling circuit being at the same pressure as the refrigerant passing directly to the evaporator through an expansion control valve 17. The line 21 may contain a restriction 26 to predetermine that the refrigerant remains in the liquid phase in the motor 20 and at the correct discharge pressure, or the same effect may be achieved by utilizing proportional sizes of lines 21, 24 and passages within the motor 20.
