Abstract

853,259. Capping bottles in vacuo. STABIL INTERNACIONAL S.A. Dec. 11, 1958, No. 40022/58. Class 125(2). Apparatus for capping bottles, in vacuo, with crown-corks comprises a vertical hollow cylinder 1 closed at its upper end 3 and provided at its lower end with a crown-cap crimping-die 12, a second hollow cylinder 6 being slidably mounted on the first in a vacuum-tight manner, the cylinders having co-operating means 10, 11 for limiting their relative sliding movement, and the outer cylinder having a gasket 26 at its lower end to form a seal on the bottlewall 25, a rod 19 being slidably mounted in the bore 2 of the first cylinder and being urged by a spring 24 so that it exerts a pressure on the uncrimped crown-cap 28 sufficient to prevent substantial escape of the liquid in the bottle by boiling during the vacuum cycle, the bore 2 and the chambers above and below the rod 19 being capable of evacuation through a channel 27. The rod carries at its lower end a magnetic plug 20 which retains the cap 28 in position as the bottle is pushed upwardly against the die, and against the action of the spring 9.
