Class 52(2) A chair having an angularly adjustable body support consists of two frames each comprising a front leg 1, rear leg 2 and arm rest 3 connected by stretchers 4, 5 upon which rest the side members 11 of a combined seat and back rest member. The seat may have a withdrawable foot rest 41 and a stop 40 on the underside of the seat which can abut against stretcher 5 allows rocking. The side members 11 are connected by stretchers 12, 15 the latter carrying a guide block 17 co-operating with curved members 14 provided between stretchers 4, 5 and the block includes a clamping device. Members 14 may be omitted and the side pieces 11 have slide surfaces of metal or other material to reduce friction on stretchers 4, 5, which may also have slide plates or rollers. In a modification, Fig. 15, the seat part 44 is pivoted to the back part 43 by a spindle 45 and the angle between the parts is adjustable and lockable by means of a spring pressed rod 48 having recesses 49 which selectively engage a plate 47 secured to the other part.
