The seat plate 20 can slide forwards on rollers 22 when the occupant leans against the back 6 and is returned to the rearmost position by springs 25. The back 6 is vertically adjustable and is set in position by a friction clamp 7. The seat and back support member 4 is pivoted at 8 to the top of a vertically-adjustable pedestal 3 and can be tilted forward by the occupant against the action of a restoring spring 15 the tension of which is adjustable. An adjustable stop 13 limits the tilting motion in the rearward direction.
