Abstract

854,234. Reclining chairs: footrests. GREAVES & THOMAS Ltd., and COBB, W. R. March 24, 1959, No. 10161/59. Class 52(2) A reclining chair has a seat and back rest unit 2, 2a supported by links 3, 3a and a footrest 4 has side links 6 pivoted thereto and anchored to a cam 7 pivoted at 8 to arm rest frames 1, the footrest 4 having rearward extensions 4a carrying a roller or rollers 5 which co-operate with a track or guide surface 10 beneath seat 2 and cam 7 being connected to seat 2 by a flexible connector 9 so that as the seat is moved backwards on links 3, 3a the footrest is moved outwardly. The footrest 4 is urged/into out-of-use position by a torsion spring on cam 7 or other means. In a modification (not shown) the footrest may be expelled by a hand lever such as the arrangement described in Specification 850,672 or an extension of link 6, the chair seat and back being fixed.
