Abstract
485,263. Adjustable easy chairs. GOMME, Ltd., E., and GOMME, E. D. Sept. 14,1937, No. 25006. [Class 52 (ii)] An adjustable easy chair comprises a base frame 2, a rigid combined back and seat unit 5, adjustable on the frame by backward and forward sliding movement, with means rendered effective by the normal weight of the seat, with or without that of an occupant, for restraining forward movement of the seat unit while freely permitting backward movement. The arrangement is such that the unit has a tendency to move forwardly, and the restraining means is such that it may be rendered ineffective, in order to allow the unit to move forwardly to an adjusted position, by relieving the pressure of the unit on the base member. The seat and back unit is supported at the rear on a cross-bar 6, Fig. 7, or rollers 15, and at the front rests on rollers 9, Fig. 4, the axles of which float in inclined slots in plates 11. The forward thrust due to the weight of the unit causes the rollers 9 to bear against a cross member 4 of the frame so as to bind and prevent further movement except when the weight is taken off by tilting the seat. Rearward movement is freely possible, since the rollers then move away from the member 4. The seat and back unit is preferably of the shape shown, and an extending foot rest 13, Fig. 1, as described in Specification 485,262 may be provided.
