Abstract

505,703. Adjustable seats. CHESTON, A. S., and CORBER, F. H. Feb. 19, 1938, Nos. 5267 and 26460. [Class 52 (ii)] A vehicle seat adjustable vertically and in a forward or rearward direction is mounted on front and rear links 2, 3, and adjustment is effected by. a screw device 8, 10 extending obliquely between the seat and the base 6 on which the seat is mounted. The screw device comprises a screw-threaded shaft 8, rotatably mounted in a swivel joint 14 on the front of the - seat frame, and engaging a nut mounted in a tubular member 10 the lower rear end of which is rigidly connected to a tubular cross member 11 which is rotatably mounted on a cross member 12 on the base 6. Tension springs 16 which urge the seat forwardly may be provided. The base 6 may slide in guides 7. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the base 6 .comprises side members of deep channel section, and is provided with lugs' 19 and. hoops 20 which may be engaged in apertures 21 in bars 22 fixed to a vertical partition. The seat is mounted on the base on links 2, 3, and the screw device 8, 10 is connected between the front of the base 6 and a cross-bar 17 at the rear of the seat frame.
