Abstract

1,046,698. Headrests convertible into tables. I. H. J. BOURNE. July 12, 1965 [July 10, 1964], No. 28501/64. Headings A4H and A4J. A headrest attachment for fitting to the back squab 11 of a car seat comprises a U-shaped harness having uprights 3 provided with two pairs of pvotally mounted clamps 5 drawn into engagement with the marginal portions of the front and rear surfaces of the back squab by a cord 12 or a strap. The lower ends of uprights 3 are telescopically adjustable on sleeves 14 provided with lugs 18 to which a pair of laces 19 are attached for interconnecting the open bottom ends of the U-shaped frame. Headrest 1 is mounted on angle brackets'21 fixed to one plate 22 of a hinge the other plate 23 of which is fixed to a yoke 4 of the U-shaped frame. Yoke 4 may be adjustable in width to suit different widths of back squab. A turn-button 24 locks headrest 1 in the upright position. The headrest may be released to lie in a horizontal position in which it is retained by blade springs 27, Fig. 3 (not shown) to form a table. The blade springs 27 may be released from engagement with plate 22 to allow the headrest to be turned downwards against the rear of the back squab. Headrest 1 may be mounted to be adjustable in height and also forwardly and rearwardly relative to the U-shaped frame. A lumbar pad may be detachably and adjustably mounted on the uprights 3.
