851,351. Hand trucks. CLARKSON, J. March 11, 1957 [March 9, 1956], No. 7398/56. Class 108(1). A hand truck for lifting bales, barrels, or other bulk objects comprises a wheel arch a, side members c cranked at c<SP>1</SP> and pivotally mounted on the arch at points b, and object gripping means such as spikes d fixed to the side members. In operation the truck is wheeled up to and positioned astride the bale &c., the members c being pivoted laterally away from each other to enable this position to be reached. The members c are then pushed towards one another so that the spikes d engage the bale, and the load is then wheeled away. A bar f provided with stops g<SP>1</SP> limits the pivoting movements of the members c, and a carrying box m with brackets to engage the cranked portions c<SP>1</SP> and the spikes d may be fitted so that the truck may be used as a normal wheelbarrow. Uprights i connected by a bar j may also be provided.
