Abstract
849,863. Furnace electrode holders. ELEKTROKEMISK A. S. Sept. 11, 1958 [Sept. 11, 1957], No. 29201/58. Class 39(3). An electrode holder for an electric smelting furnace comprises a number of contact clamps disposed around the electrode and pressed against its surface by spring means acting against the reaction of a pressure ring embracing the clamps and the electrode, the spring means acting on each clamp through a screw-threaded pressure bolt housed within the pressure ring and provided with adjustable means for varying its effective length. As shown, each contact clamp 2 is engaged by the inner end of a screwthreaded pressure bolt 4 which is screwed into a bushing 5 axially displaceable but secured against rotation within a bore formed in a pressure ring link 3. Disc springs 7 act between the link 3 and a flange on the bushing 5 to urge the latter and the bolt 4 axially against the clamp 2. The outer end of the bolt 4 is formed with a hole having an outer part 10 of square section and an internally threaded inner part 11. Rotation of the bolt 4, effected by a squareended key inserted into the hole 10 through the open end of the bore in the link 3 which is normally closed by a cover 9, serves to displace the bolt axially in tha bushing to vary the spring pressure. A pulling device 12, 13, 14 screwed into the hole 11 enables the plunger to be displaced in the outward direction to compress the springs 7 and relieve the clamping pressure.
