Abstract
849,804. Pipe couplings. DAMIC CONTROLS Ltd. March 14, 1958 [March 14, 1957], No. 8497/57. Class 99(1). In a pipe coupling of the kind comprising two main separable parts, one part containing a spring-loaded non-return valve 5 which is displaced from a resilient seating 9 to permit the flow of fluid when the two parts are interengaged, one of the the parts comprises co-axially arranged portions 1, 2, 3 screw-threadedly interconnected, the portion 2 containing the seating 9 and the portion 3 having mounted thereon a control nut 19 adapted to screw on to the other part 4 of the coupling for displacement of the valve 5 from its seating As shown, the seating 9 is secured between the end of the portion 1 and a sleeve nut 8 forming the portion 2 and surrounds a spigot 12 on the portion 3, the spigot having a coned end 13 and forming a stop for limiting indentation of the seating by the valve. The valve 5 is internally coned at its extremity and is formed with radially inclined fluid passageways 26. The part 4 is formed integral with a tubular part 22 which engages a tubular valve lifter 23 having two diametrically opposite slots 27 with at least one radial hole 28 for the passage of fluid. In a modification, not shown, the nut 8 is internally coned to form a seating for the valve the latter having a conical face provided with an annular groove for reception of a sealing ring.
