848,989. Load handling devices on vehicles; lamps. ALLARD Ltd., W. E. Nov. 18, 1958 [Nov. 25, 1957], No. 36598/57. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (4). A load supporting carriage is provided with a braking device to control its movement down guides which may be attached to the platform of a lorry. A carriage 13, sliding on tubular guides 10, is provided with a shaft 18 carrying eccentrics 20 which may be made to bind on the guides 10 by means of a handle 21 to apply the braking action. The handle 21 may be locked in its braking position by a pin 24 engaging in holes 23. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the load effects rotation of the eccentrics to apply the brake by acting on levers pivoted to the eccentrics, the brake being releasable by means of the handle.
