[Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv)] A load-handling vehicle for transporting and dumping loose materials comprises an open-top skip a adapted to be detachably connected to two-armed lever members f, each pivoted at f<1> on opposite sides of the vehicle body or frame, by flexible connections c each passing around two spaced rollers b on the skip and a roller or sprocket f on the adjacent lever, so that when the levers are swung about the pivots f<1> by pump-operated, doubleacting, piston - and - cylinder devices d, d<1>, the skip maintains its upright position when lowered. Alternatively, when abutments g at the bottom of the skip are engaged by pivoted hook-latches h, swinging movement of the levers f causes the skip to tip, as shown in Fig. 2. Engagement of the latches h may be effected automatically when a power take-off clutch is operated by the driver to move the levers f. For handloading, a number of skips may be nested on the vehicle and lowered to the ground one at a time. - To prevent the front end of the vehicle from rising when a load is being raised or lowered, one or two manually or automaticallyoperated legs or struts may be lowered beneath the chassis. When a skip is not carried on the vehicle, the levers f may be used as a crane or winch.
