848,941. Welding by fusion. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Dec. 15, 1958 [Dec. 20, 1957], No. 39743/57. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XVII] A spool-holder comprises a hub 2 and a locking-device 3 pivotally mounted on the hub 2 and arranged when positioned transversely of the hub 2 to retain a spool on the hub 2 and to prevent rotation of the spool relatively to the hub 2 and when positioned longitudinally of the hub 2 to allow unobstructed loading of the spool. In a holder for a spool of welding wire, the hub 2 is rotatably mounted on, but insulated from, a shaft 17 fixed to the welding-machine and is retained by a spring 18 adjustably compressed by a bolt 19. A friction-pad 16 prevents overrunning. The locking-device 3 consists of a wire 4 formed with extended arms, the ends of which are pivotally engaged in holes 6 in the hub 2. A pin 8 passing through an elongated loop 7 of the wire 4 carries an angled projection 12 arranged to pass through apertures 26 in the spool flange. The pin 8 is lockable by a nut 11 in any desired position along the loop 7.
