848,573. Reciprocating pumps. GASKELL & CHAMBERS Ltd., [trading as NON-DRIP MEASURE CO.]. Oct. 6, 1958 [June 19, 1957], No. 22971/57. Class 102(1). A liquid dispensing device comprises a cylinder 1, Fig. 2, having an inlet 6 adapted to be connected to a liquid supply and an outlet 9 leading to a delivery pipe 12. A piston 3 is reciprocated in the cylinder by a pinion 19 which engages a rack 20 on the piston rod 14 and a pawl 23, Fig. 3, and ratchet device 22 is provided to ensure that a complete delivery or suction stroke is made before the next stroke can be started. The pinion 19 is actuated by a rotating or oscillating handle 17 which drives the pinion through a clutch 25. The clutch comprises a member 26 having a recess 29 which receives a projection 28 on a member 27 spring- loaded into engagement with the member 26. Should an operator try to continue operation of the handle after completing a stroke or to start the next stroke before completion of the previous stroke the projection 28 will move out of the recess 29 thus disconnecting the drive. Indicators are provided to show the quantity dispensed on each stroke and the total number of strokes. Specification 790,795 is referred to.
