Feb. 22, 1922 Counters actuated by reciprocating mechanism.-A liquid dispenser comprises a pump and a measuring chamber, and an indicating apparatus operated by the pumping mechanism, means being provided to prevent manual operation of the indicating mechanism to indicate more than the quantity delivered. A member 80 carried by a reciprocating part of the pump rotates during each up-stroke a spiral bar 81 of square &c. section and lifts it into engagement with the boss of a spur-wheel 88 so that, when the bar is rotated, the wheel moves with it. During the down stroke, the bar is disengaged from the spur-wheel, which is then locked against rotation by a square block 85. The wheel 88 drives a gear-wheel 90 carrying a spring-pawl 96 in permanent engagement with a ratchet 95 on a spindle 94. The spindle 94 carries a pointer 98 moving over a fixed scale and may be turned by means of a head 97 to bring the pointer back to zero, 'but not in a forward direction owing to the engagement of the pawl 98 with the ratchet.
