In a petrol or other liquid dispensing apparatus, including a device for printing a ticket recording the volume dispensed, a latching mechanism is provided to ensure that after an initial printing of the ticket the apparatus can perform only one dispensing operation and is prevented from performing a second until a further printing of the ticket has been effected to complete the record of the volume dispensed. The ticket to be printed is inserted in a shoot 11, Fig. 1, and a crank 7 is turned manually through one revolution to effect the initial printing, and also to move the shoot 11 from position A to position B. A collar 223 on a cable 199 secured to the shoot 11 then moves to allow a bell crank 211 to be turned counterclockwise by a spring 225 until an arm 215 thereof rests on a hook 235, Fig. 4, of a panel 227. The arm 215 is thus held out of latching engagement with a cam follower 95 so that a cam 51 may be rotated clockwise by the handle 82 to operate mechanism for resetting the dials 15, 17 for registering the volume dispensed. On further clockwise rotation of the handle 82 a cam 84 closes a switch 88 to energize the pump motor to initiate the dispensing operation. Additionally such further rotation actuates cam mechanism to project a shaft 29 into engagement with the end 233 of the pawl 227 to withdraw the hook 235 from the arm 215. The bell crank 211 is then rotated by the spring 225 so that on rotating the handle 82 counterclockwise to terminate dispensing a projection 219 on the cam follower 95 engages in a recess at the end of the arm 215. This prevents subsequent clockwise rotation of the handle 82 to initiate a second dispensing operation until the crank 7 has been turned another revolution to complete the printing of the ticket and to return the shoot 11 to the A position. The collar 223 on the cable 199 then engages and rotates the bell crank lever 211 to raise the arm 215 out of its latching position to be held by the hook 235.
