[Also in Group XVIII] A petrol pump can print the cost of petrol dispensed and is provided with interlocks to prevent incorrect operation. Before the pump motor 13, Fig. 1, can be energized by movement of lever 12 from vertical position, the register wheels 19 of the computer must be set by zero by knob 18. If a ticket is printed, its first impression is of the zero setting and then the accumulated cost of the petrol dispensed. A gallons wheel shaft 20 drives the counter and printer wheels through a universal coupling and bevel gears in known manner. Printer operating handle 10 moves the printing wheels into contact with a ticket through chain 58 and sprocket 60, Fig. 3. It also turns cam 76 through half a revolution to the position shown in Fig. 6 so as to rock bell-crank 90 free of lever 92. Reset shaft 22 can then be operated to set the computer to zero. In this position the pump can be operated freely without using the printer. If, however, the printer is to be used, a ticket is inserted, the handle 10 is rotated, whereby zero is printed and the cam 76 turned to the position shown in Fig. 5, in which reset shaft is rendered inoperative. After the petrol has been delivered the handle 10 is again turned to print the cost on the ticket, zeroize the printer wheels, and rock bell-crank 90 to permit resetting of the computer. To prevent the attendant printing a ticket for less petrol than is delivered, an interlock, in the form of a finger 110 and locking cam 112, prevents operation of handle 10 until the pump has been shut off by lever 12 and shaft 24 moves to the right to withdraw the finger.
