Abstract

1,067,258. Counters. VEEDER INDUSTRIES Inc. July 20, 1965 [July 21, 1964], No. 30834/65. Heading G4D. A counting device comprises a counter having a plurality of coaxial number wheels and associated reset cams 60, pivotally mounted transfer pinions 138 to 141 associated with the number wheels, pivotal reset fingers 64 engageable with cams 60 and reset mechanism, including a reset shaft 30, rotatable about an axis parallel to the counteraxis and resetting means 78 for resetting the number wheels by causing, sequentially, upon rotation of shaft 30 in one angular direction, withdrawal of the transfer pinions from engagement with the number wheels; pivotal movement of the reset fingers into engagement with cams 60 to reset the number wheels; return of the transfer pinions whilst said number wheels are held in their reset positions; and upon rotation of shaft 30 in the opposite direction, disengagement of the reset fingers from said cams 60. As illustrated in Fig. 4 (not shown), anti-clockwise angular movement of reset shaft 30, through cam (149) and follower (152) causes a yoke (146) to pivot about shaft 66. Yoke (146) supports pinion shafts 142, 143 on which are mounted mutilated transfer pinions 138 to 141. Anti-clockwise movement of yoke (146) withdraws the pinions 138 to 141 from their operative positions in mesh with number wheel drive gears 145. For aligning the pinions for re-engagement with drive gears 145, the pinions are provided with aligning plates or cams 171 having a polygonal contour. Plates 171 are adapted to engage aligning bars 172, 174. Anti-clockwise movement of reset shaft 30, through fixed and floating cams 80 and 84 and pin 74 actuates reset fingers 64 to engage cams 60. The cams 80, 84 and 149 are so arranged that the above mentioned sequential operations take place. On initial rotation of shaft 30 by a reset lever (40) (Fig. 2, not shown), a clutch (54) is disengaged which disengages the drive train to the counters. A mechanism illustrated in Fig. 6 (not shown), causes angular displacement of the lowest order number wheels to avoid " deadcentre " engagement during resetting of the number wheels and alignment of the transfer pinion.
