Abstract

1,146,524. Fluid dispensing apparatus, A. O. SMITH CORP. 5 May, 1966 [24 May, 1965], No. 19881/66. Heading A4T. In a control unit for operating the pump switch and resetting the computer of a petrol dispenser so that the switch is closed only after resetting the computer and the switch is opened only after resetting the control unit, a manual trip lever must first be moved to turn shaft 23 and pawl 22 which abuts and lifts pawl 24 on cam 19 out of notch 25 in a ratchet wheel 14 secured to a manual switch lever shaft 13 carrying a switch operating cam 9 and prevented from being turned by pawl 18 engaging the ratchet wheel. Spring 20 then rotates cam 19 which resets and connects the computer to the meter and shifts pawl 18 via cam portion 19<SP>1</SP> so that the switch shaft 13 and cam 9 are free for turning. The switch has a differential action and the switch cam 9 has a raised switch-off portion, an intermediate holding portion and a lowered switch-on portion. On turning cam 9 a switch operating cam follower moves off the raised and on to the holding portion during which, due to the differential switch action, the switch remains off and notch 25 is brought into position to receive pawl 24 again. On further turning the follow rides on to the switch-on position and energizes the pump for dispensing. At the end of dispensing, the switch lever is turned in the opposite direction and as the follower rides from the on portion to the holding portion, the switch and pump remain on and notch 25 engages pawl 24 to tension spring 20 as cam 19 is turned and held by pawl 18 engaging ratchet 14 and the computer is disconnected from the meter. On further turning, the follower rides off the holding portion on to the off portion to stop the pump. The control unit is then ready to start a subsequent resetting and dispensing.
